A recent survey conducted by various international organizations reveals a stark contrast between global opinions on the issue of reincarnation. Of the 4,298 people surveyed, 36.4% responded yes while 63.6% responded no.
The survey results show that those living in Asia are most likely to believe in reincarnation. More specifically, 38.1% of respondents from the continent answered yes while 61.9% responded no. African respondents had the second highest belief in reincarnation, with 36.3% answering yes and 63.7% answering no.
Europeans, on the other hand, had the lowest belief in reincarnation, with only 34.5% answering yes and 65.5% answering no. North Americans (36.5% yes, 63.5% no) and South Americans (37.4% yes, 62.6% no) fell in the middle. Oceanians had the lowest belief amongst all regions, with only 33.4% answering yes and 66.6% answering no.
The survey results have been met with mixed reactions. Although the majority of respondents have rejected belief in reincarnation, religious leaders across the world have voiced their support for the belief and urged people to consider the possibility that reincarnation may be possible. Meanwhile, scientists have challenged the validity of the survey results, claiming that more reliable results can be achieved through more rigorous methods.
While it remains to be seen how belief in reincarnation may be affected by the survey results, one thing is clear: opinions on the issue are still heavily divided around the world.
